Evangelism--Closing the Deal

No matter how many training courses you take, no matter how much you practice with another member of the church, evangelism always comes down to having to ask someone to study God’s Word with you. As far as I can tell, the lump you get in your throat never completely goes away and I believe this is good. I had a graduate professor that said this to me about teaching, “When you quit getting nervous the first day of classes, it is probably time to find a different career.” I agree with her sentiment because when you really care about someone or something, it should matter to you.

If you have been able to share with someone how God has made a difference in your life as I suggested in my blog last week, then the natural extension of that discussion is, “Would you like to find out how God can make that sort of difference in your life?” I have found that there are a lot of receptive hearts in the world, even though many are telling us there is not. People still want a different way of life; if you have given evidence of how God transforms lives, it is now time to close the deal. Ask them to study!

Many fears are built up in our minds that will never become a reality. I have never had anyone physically attack me or call me terrible names because I asked for a Bible study. I have had a door closed on me, but even that was politely. Satan wants us to fear doing good for God because it keeps us in the shadows of what we could be for Him; on the other hand, God is urging us to come out into the light and see what the truth of His Word can do in the lives of people. Who are you going to listen to? Which one is worth the effort? Choose God and bringing others into His kingdom. Remember God has “entrusted to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God [is] making his appeal through us” (2 Cor. 5:19-20). Let God make His appeal through you starting today.
